The Golden Compass Daemon Test

Filed under: General Stuff — slimpickins @ 6:17 am

The Golden Compass Daemon Test

Your Score: The Honest Soul.

You scored 1 Extroversion, -8 Sensitivity, and 20 Openness!

You are a talkative, open kind of person. You wear your heart on your sleeve, and you trust people not to break it. In a way, you are as honest and trusting as a child. You are comfortable with who you are and have a strong sense of self, but you are also a little sensitive. Hurtful remarks, especially from people whose opinion you value, have the power to wound you terribly.

You tend to be open about your thoughts and opinions, and you find it difficult to hide your emotions from people. You like to share your thoughts, opinions, and emotions with people, and to hear theirs in return. When someone disagrees with you or offends you, you will take them up on it, whether they are friends or strangers. You don’t mind a friendly debate, but become upset when things get hostile. You wish that people wouldn’t take everything so personally, but simply think calmly about things.

You have a close knit group of friends and family for whom you would sacrifice almost anything. You don’t like big parties full of strangers – you would rather spend your time with the people whom you really care about. You need a private spot where you can retreat when the world gets to be too much, but you want to be able to emerge from your “den” and find your loved ones there to heap love and affection upon you.

Your daemon would represent your loving, open nature, and he or she would probably spend a lot of time encouraging you to be independent and to do the right thing.

Suggested forms: Dog, Otter, Marmoset, Saw-Whet Owl, Songbird, Chinchilla.

Empty Numbness

Empty Numbness ~ 11/09/07

My body is numb,
From the flooding of contradicting emotions.
Happiness, Contentment, Sadness, and Grief,
Do I ride the roller coaster or run and hide with fear?

I feel empty,
How do I feel empty and yet so much all at the same time?
On the verge of tears,
Or not…who knows.

Confusion, Worry and Stress are longtime friends,
Is it time to say goodbye? Can I ever really say goodbye?
Friends come and friends go,
Sometimes it is out of our hands.

Fresh start bringing new hopes, dreams, life and a future,
Yet awareness of past brings old feelings to surface.
Sadness for what may be,
Grief of possible loss on the horizon.

Ashamed for things falling into place on my palette,
Fear of security and happiness overwhelms.
Guilt at being semi-healthy,
Sorrow that I can’t quite shake.

Diving deep into a new world,
Surrounded, cared about and loved.
Uncharted territory entered without much fear,
Knowing that it will all work out, shows growth.

Desire to let go and fall,
Trying not to hold back.
Avoiding unfounded urges to flee,
Allowing myself to go with the flow of life.

My body lost to empty numbness,
Flooded with contradicting emotions.
Happiness, Contentment, Sorrow, Guilt, Fear, and Shame,
Do I go with the tunnel and come out stronger or search for another path less traveled?

Love Poem

Filed under: General Stuff — slimpickins @ 4:10 pm

This was written for me back on April 16, 1999 by a friend online. I have saved it and treasured it since then. It really is sweet… but let me know what you think…

A LONELY HEART By: SilverWind

When I think of you
I long
To hold you gently in my arms
To feel your embrace wrap around me
Together we could hold each other up

The world may slip and fall
Lost under a tumble of ugly debris
But you and I, when we’re together
It doesn’t matter
We have each other

If you would only look at me
Your eyes filled with love
Your hand tenderly holding mine
And say you felt the same
That you cared as much

If you would but give me your heart
I would softly caress it
Store it beside my soul
Treasure it for the rest of my life
Hold it tenderly within

But there is another
Whom you would live for
Another whose eyes you gaze into
Another who owns your heart
Another you care for

What is there for me to do?
I cannot tell you
I cannot destroy what friendship we have
I WILL not come between you
And the one you long for

As you speak of your love
I just listen to your voice
And can do nothing but be there
As a friend, to help you
And that will never end, I assure you

Yet still I long
To hold you gently in my arms
To feel your embrace wrap around me
To treasure your heart
To love you for the rest of your days

First Frost

Filed under: General Stuff — slimpickins @ 3:06 pm

Today as I got out to the car to start it up to head in to work, I noticed that we had out first frost last night! You know what that means… snow, ice, bad drivers, getting up early to scrap off the car, and wearing more clothing. :( Some people like winter.. I hate it!!!

I prefer to wear the least amount that I can, and with winter that isn’t possible. This means a heavy winter coat, a scarf, warm gloves, a hat, boots and at least 2 layers underneath. Phoooey.. give me warm weather, hot sun, even rain and stormy before I want winter coldness.

Now there are a few good things about the winter coldness that I enjoy. I enjoy the nights spent curled up in front of the fire either reading a good book or doing some crafty thing. I enjoy watching all the stupid drivers try to drive up the hill outside my apartment. I enjoy taking Ginger out and watching her prance and pounce her way around the snow. So I guess it’s not all bad.

Penis size increasing?

Filed under: General Stuff — slimpickins @ 7:36 pm

Check this out…. Is it just me or does it seem that men are getting bigger and us women are staying the same?? Or are SCientific studies just getting that much better??

Taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_penis_size

Several scientific studies have been performed on the erect length of the adult penis. Studies which have relied on self-measurement, including those from Internet surveys, consistently reported a higher average length than those which used medical or scientific methods to obtain measurements.[citation needed]

  • A study published in the September 1996 Journal of Urology concluded that average erect length was 12.9 cm (5.08 in) (Measured by staff).[6] The purpose of the study was to “provide guidelines of penile length and circumference to assist in counseling patients considering penile augmentation.” Erection was pharmacologically induced in 80 physically normal American men (varying ethnicity, average age 54). It was concluded: “Neither patient age nor size of the flaccid penis accurately predicted erectile length.”
  • A study published in the December 2000 International Journal of Impotence Research found that average erect penis length was 13.6 cm (5.35 in) (Measured by staff).[7] Quote: “The aim of this prospective study was to identify clinical and engineering parameters of the flaccid penis for prediction of penile size during erection.” Erection was pharmacologically induced in 50 Jewish Caucasian patients who had been evaluated for Erectile dysfunction (average age 47±14y). Patients with penis abnormalities or whose ED could be attributed to more than one psychological origin were omitted from the study.
  • A study conducted by LifeStyles Condoms found an average of 14.9 cm (5.9 in) with a standard deviation of 2.1 cm (0.8 in) (Measured by staff).[8] The purpose of this study was to ensure properly sized condoms were available. 401 college students volunteered to be measured during 2001 Spring Break in Cancún, Mexico, of which 300 gained an erection to be clinically measured (without pharmacological aid). Some of these factors may meet the definition of possible sample bias.[9]

Q: My dick is 6 inches long. Is that small? Or is it average? How large is the average dick?
A: Here are the statistics on erect penis lengths for white college men, in quarter-inch lengths measured by The Alfred C. Kinsey Institute for Sex Research (from the point where the penis meets the body along the top to its tip):

percent length
0.2 percent 3.75 inches
0.3 percent 4 inches
0.2 percent 4.25 inches
1.7 percent 4.5 inches
0.8 percent 4.75 inches
4.2 percent 5 inches
4.4 percent 5.25 inches
10.7 percent 5.5 inches
percent length
8 percent 5.75 inches
23.9 percent 6 inches
8.8 percent 6.25 inches
14.3 percent 6.5 inches
5.7 percent 6.75 inches
9.5 percent 7 inches
1.8 percent 7.25 inches
2.9 percent 7.5 inches
percent length
1 percent 7.75 inches
1 percent 8 inches
0.3 percent 8.25 inches
0.3 percent 8.5 inches
0.1 percent 8.75 inches
0.1 percent 9 inches

(note: 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 0.25 inch = 0.635 cm)
Here the same data in some other from:

[click here for diagram in cm]

So the average penis length is 6.16 inches.
The average girth is 4.84 inches.

More recent studies have produced the following results:
A sample of 60 men studied by researchers at the University of California at San Francisco determined that the average size of their erect penises was 5.1 inches long and 4.9 inches in girth. A Brazilian urologist who measured 150 men reported that the average size of their erections was 5.7 inches long and 4.7 inches in girth.

Facts about penis size

Written by Dr David Delvin, GP and family planning specialist and Christine Webber, psychotherapist

Average penis lengthA non-erect penis usually measures between 8.5cm and 10.5cm (3-4 inches) from tip to base. The average figure is about 9.5cm (3.75 inches), but this kind of precise measurement is rather valueless. Many factors can cause a temporary shrinkage of two inches or more, for instance cold weather or going swimming, so you needn’t worry if you happen to fall short of the average figure.Of course, it’s true that some men have big penises and some have smaller ones, just as some men have small feet and some have big feet, but the measurement is not – repeat not – an index of virility. Most people think that a tall man will usually have a large penis, but this is not true. The distinguished American researchers Masters and Johnson measured the penile lengths of more than 300 men.

  • The largest organ was 14 cm (5.5 inches) in the flaccid state. It belonged to a slim man who was 5′ 7″ tall (170 cm).
  • The smallest penis measured 6cm (2.25 inches). It belonged to a fairly heavily built man of 5′ 11″ (180cm).

It’s also worth pointing out that there is no correlation between penile size and race.Average size of erectionsWe’ve talked about the length of the penis in its ordinary non-erect state, but how long should it be when it’s erect?Interestingly, most penises are very much the same size when erect.

  • The man whose non-erect penis is smallish will usually achieve about a 100 per cent increase in length during sexual excitement.
  • The man whose non-erect penis is on the largish size will probably manage about a 75 per cent increase.
  • This means the great majority of penises measure between 15cm and 18cm (6-7 inches) when erect, with the average figure being about 16.5cm (6.5 inches).

So you can see that even if a man has got a ’small’ penis, he’s got a built-in compensating factor that will bring him up to about the same size as the guy who appears to be ‘better equipped’ in the shower room. Sex and womenVirtually every man forgets that it doesn’t matter how long or how short your penis is, because the vagina will accommodate itself to any length.

  • The vagina of a woman who hasn’t had a child is only 7.5cm (3 inches) long when she’s not sexually excited. The figures for women who have had babies are only slightly different.
  • Even when aroused, a woman’s vagina usually extends only to a length of about 10cm (4 inches).

This means any man’s penis will fill her vagina completely, unless you happen to be one of those rare guys with an erect penile length of less than four inches. You’re probably now wondering how the average man with an erection of six inches manages to insert his penis into the vagina at all.The vagina has the most remarkable capacity for lengthening if something is introduced into it gradually. So the exceptional man whose erect penis is eight inches long can still make love to any woman, providing he excites her properly and introduces his organ very slowly. If he does this, her vagina will lengthen by 150 or 200 per cent to accommodate him.

New Species Discovered…

Filed under: General Stuff — slimpickins @ 4:13 pm

Now this is sooo cool. I want one, of all of them. :)

 Taken From : http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070926/ap_on_sc/vietnam_new_species

(see pics at bottom)

HANOI, Vietnam – Scientists have discovered 11 new species of plants and animals in Vietnam, including a snake, two butterflies and five orchid varieties, the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) said Wednesday.

The new species were found in a remote region known as the “Green Corridor” in Thua Thien Hue province in central Vietnam, it said.

“You only discover so many new species in very special places, and the Green Corridor is one of them,” Chris Dickinson, WWF’s chief technical adviser in the region, said in a statement.

The new snake species, the white-lipped keelback, generally lives close to streams and eats frogs and other small animals, WWF said. It has a yellow-white stripe along its head, red dots over its body and can reach a length of 31.5 inches.

The new butterfly species are among eight discovered in Thua Thien Hue since 1996. One is a “skipper,” a butterfly that flies in a quick, darting motion. It is from the genus Zela. The other is from a new genus in the subfamily Satyrinae.

Three of the new orchid species are leafless, which is unusual for orchids, WWF said.

The other new plant species include one in the aspidistra family, which produces a black flower and can subsist in low light, and an arum, which produces yellow flowers surrounded by funnel-shaped leaves, it said.

“It’s great news for Vietnam,” said Bernard O’Callaghan, Vietnam program coordinator for the World Conservation Union. “The jungles and mountains of Vietnam are fascinating places and they continue to surprise scientists.”

All the new species are exclusive to tropical forests in Vietnam’s Annamites mountain range, which offers unique habitats.

All species in the area are under threat from illegal logging, hunting and development.

Many threatened species live in the Green Corridor, including the white-cheeked crested gibbon, one of the world’s most endangered primates.

Anyone up for an Auction??

Filed under: General Stuff — slimpickins @ 7:20 pm

Taken from: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070925/ap_on_fe_st/nerd_auction;_ylt=AmhL0kt69fd1yBvcLYR5Wa4uQE4F

PULLMAN, Wash. – Looking to recruit more women, and perhaps date some sorority girls, the largest computer club at Washington State University hopes to hold a “nerd auction.”

The idea is to trade their computer skills to sorority girls in exchange for a makeover and, possibly, a date.

“You can buy a nerd and he’ll fix your computer, help you with stats homework, or if you’re really adventurous, take you to dinner!” Ben Ford, president of the Linux Users Group, said on its Web site recently.

Ford acknowledged that some of the group’s 213 registered members may not be ready for the auction block.

“The problem is that we’re all still nerds. Let’s face it, guys. If anyone’s going to bid on us, we’ll need some spicing up,” he wrote. “And who better to help with that than sorority girls who like nothing better than a makeover?”

This all began as an effort to recruit more women into computer science programs, the Moscow-Pullman Daily News reported Tuesday. A public relations class decided to help by studying the social dynamics of the Linux group, which focuses on the use of the computer operating system. The students interviewed Ford and some others and created an online survey of LUG members, evaluating how they heard about the club, how they perceived the group and their reasons for being active or inactive.

“Our conclusion was that they need to promote themselves better, then specific ideas were presented to them,” said professor Moon Lee, who taught the public relations class. “They made suggestions to work with specific groups such as sororities. Sorority groups tend to have a very good social network.”

Ford initially was skeptical.

“When they said we should have a social with a sorority,” he said. “I thought that was a joke.”

Ford, who has an undergraduate degree in computer science and is pursuing a master’s in business management, said the idea for the nerd auction came to him in the shower.

“Here’s the current plan: We’ll choose a handful of brave nerds to take one for the team,” Ford wrote. “The girls get to have their way with them and we’ll document each makeover.

“We’ll make a snazzy video and show it over dinner. After the dinner, we’ll auction off the now studly nerds,” a hopeful Ford wrote.

The plan is to have the auction open to the general student population and co-sponsored by a sorority.

Ford has spoken to several sororities, but so far none has committed to the project, which he wants to do in October or November. A call to the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life at WSU by The Associated Press was not immediately returned.

Professor Carl Hauser has talked with LUG members about trying to increase the number of women in computer science at WSU.

“In our computer science program as well as in programs across the country, the percentage of women is at an all-time low,” Hauser said. “Nobody understands what this is all about.”

He has doubts about the nerd auction, though.

“We’ll see,” he said. “It’s going to be fun, but its effectiveness — I don’t know if it will increase the number of women in the program.”
